Religious Education News
We are now in the second week of Lent and the children have been observing the changes to their prayer spaces and the Church during the Lenten season.
Purple or violet is the prescribed liturgical colour of Lent. Cloths on our prayer tables and the Tabernacle cover in the Church are now violet. The use of the colour purple helps to evoke a mood of simplicity and austerity. During Lent flowers and other decorations are removed from the Church as well. We do not say the Alleluia or the Gloria during Mass in Lent, but will rejoice again at the Easter Vigil Mass.
During Lent we focus on prayer, almsgiving and fasting. Lent is a time to care for others less fortunate than ourselves. Each class has a Project Compassion Box in their room to collect money for Caritas (our Catholic Church charity). The theme this year is ‘Be More’. Students are welcome to bring in small change to pop into the box….especially if they have made a choice to ‘go without’ something during Lent.
