Stillness, Silence and Service was the focus for the staff Spirituality Day held on Monday. We were certainly very privileged to have all St Joseph’s staff come together for the day to develop deeper theological understanding of Scripture through prayer and reflection.
In the first session, Finding Silence, we entered into silence through prayer, unpacked Old Testament Scripture and learnt about the traditional Aboriginal practice of Dadirri to engage in deep listening.
During our second session, Seeking Stillness, staff completed an Emmaus Walk and Visio Divina that focused on the New Testament Scripture; ‘Martha and Mary’. We were challenged to reflect on the busyness of our own lives, how God has called us to be of service to others, and how we encounter Jesus in our daily lives.
The third session, Flourishing in Service, Archbishop Christopher spoke of the importance of contemplative prayer as a way of coming to know God rather than just know about God. We completed the day with Journaling and Christian Meditation.
It is often difficult to be still and to get away the noise and activity that is part and parcel of the world we live in. The staff were grateful to be given the time to nourish their spiritual growth and find the silence to allow God to speak silently within us.
