Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a busy week at school with NAPLAN, students representing the region in sport and various other activities. The students at St Joseph’s are very lucky to have such a diverse range of activities in which to participate and test their skills.
Mortimer Shield
The Year 5 and 6 boys had a wonderful day at the Mortimer Shield last Thursday. They played with great skill and sportsmanship. Combining with St Patrick’s from Gundagai and under the guidance of Mrs Wilson, they were a formidable team. Two wins and a draw saw them into the semi-finals, and while they played really well, lost to McAuley. The boys are to be congratulated on their determination and passion. Special thanks to the parents and grandparents who came along and supported their boys and Mrs Wilson for her care and coaching. Also special mention of Preston who unfortunately broke his thumb and couldn’t play in the last game.
Archdiocesan Cross Country
Congratulations to Toby, Nate and Laura who ran their hearts out last Monday at the Archdiocesan Cross Country. They finished in 7th, 9th and 15th places respectively. It was a great day for running and the competition was of a high standard, so they should be very proud of their wonderful efforts.
WR Choir
Trinity Catholic School at Murrumburrah has offered to host the Western Region Choir Competition on the 23rd June. Mrs Parker has kindly offered to train our Year 2 – 6 students to participate. I am sure this will be a wonderful experience for students, who I believe have quite a successful reputation from previous competitions to live up to!
Athletics Carnival
Fingers crossed the weather will clear and we will be able to hold the Athletics Carnival next Wednesday at the Bull Paddock in Tumut. Please refer to Compass for further details and participation forms. We are in need of several parents to be time-keepers for the long distance and sprint races, so please let Mrs Crampton know if you are available to help.
Lunch Time Activities
Knitting Club - As the winter weather settles in, it seems the knitting needles are coming out! Mrs Parker has started a lunch time knitting club and some of the students are showing great enthusiasm. Thank you Mrs Parker!
Football Skills – Three of our students have shown initiative and organised to run a footy skills clinic at lunch time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Henry, Fred and Lochie have organised the equipment and decided what skills they will be focusing on. They even have a sign on sheet! The first session was a success and I congratulate the boys on their willingness to give up their play time to organise something for the other students!
Trivia Night
I am looking forward to testing the brain power and having lots of fun at the Trivia Night on Saturday. Thank you to Andrew Reynolds, Jess Reynolds and the Community Council who have been organising auction items and raffle prizes for the event.
God bless,
Katrina McGrath
Acting Principal
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Please keep Ollie, Henry and James in your prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Students are preparing for the Sacrament with Mrs Murray during Religion lessons in class.
Fr George came to school on Tuesday to meet the candidates and talk about the Sacrament of Reconciliation with the students. He was impressed with their understanding of the Sacrament and they rehearsed the procedure.
Please let me know if your child/ren will be making any of the sacraments offered this year.

We have noticed increased activity of vehicles coming into the school grounds dropping children off at the top of the carpark in the morning and vehicles coming inside the school grounds during school hours.
In the instance that you are required to pick up your child/ren during school hours for appointments, due to illness etc., if possible please try to park outside the grounds.
If you are needing to pick up children urgently or cannot leave your vehicle, please phone ahead and staff will organise children to be ready and waiting and can assist with signing them out and bringing them out to the car at the Gundagai St entrance.
Students need to be dropped off in Gundagai Street and walked to the gate where they can then walk up to the weather shed. In the afternoon students catching buses will walk across the grass area to the bus stop by a teacher and students on pick up will be walked to the front gate by a teacher. Parents need to wait at the gate to collect their child/ren.
If it is raining at morning drop off or afternoon pick up, we ask that parents use the wet weather routine and drive into school grounds via Wyndham St, stopping at the weather shed to drop children off/pick up and leave the grounds via the front entrance. Buses will use this same routine (please ensure you give way to buses and allow them to enter before the pick up line, this is to ensure they can make it in time for other school pick ups).
Athletics Carnival - Wednesday 18th May - Tumut Bull Paddock.
Students will come to school and travel to Tumut by bus with Goode's Coaches and return in time for normal pick and bus times. They will need sports uniform, packed fruit, recess, lunch and lots of water.
Permission has gone out via Compass, please remember to go onto Compass and approve permission.
Bus travel will cost $5.00 per student and will need to be sent in by either cash to school, debiting school fees or direct deposit to the school account.
We love to have parent help on the day, please let us know if you can assist.
If the weather is not looking promising a decision will be made early in the week, with a back up date the following week.
Trivia Night in support of Andrew Reynolds Tumut Takes 2 is going to be a fantastic event on Saturday evening starting at 6pm.
Great lucky door prizes and charity auction items on the night. Eftpos will be available.
Community Council Meeting
Please find attached the minutes from the last Community Council meeting, next meeting will be held on Wednesday 8th June, 2022.
Contemplative Prayer and Christian Mediation
The students in 2/3 have been learning about Contemplative Prayer and engaging in Christian Mediation. We have been allowing God into our hearts through the silence, stillness and the simplicity of this prayer. The practice of Christian Meditation is a focus for the whole school this year.
REMINDER: No Hat, No Play policy is in place all year round, a reminder that your child/ren need a hat for outside play.
If they don't have a hat they will need to sit under the tree.
Please ensure that all hats and clothing are labelled.
Book Club catalogues have gone out this week, ordering is totally optional and not compulsory.
Please place your order through the LOOP app.
