Dear Parents and Carers,
Congratulations to Jess and Matt McMahon and family who have welcomed twin boys this week. Little Jake and Dylan are such a blessing and I am sure will bring much joy to their family. Please keep them in your prayers.
Western Region Cross Country
I was so very proud of our students last week at the Western Region Athletics Carnival as they gave their very best efforts, in trying conditions, in each of their events. When they weren’t participating, they were cheering on their classmates!
From 20 competitors we have 6 going to the next level of competition. Congratulations to Nate Annetts who placed 1st in the 13 years 100m, Kruz Annetts who placed 1st in the 8 years 100m, Alice McDougall who was 4th in the 9 years 100m and the relay team consisting of Toby Roots, Laura Reynolds, Sam Robson and Nate Annetts who placed 1st in the 4 x 100m relay.
Thank you to Mrs Dean who managed the high jump event and the many parents who transported the children and cheered them on through the events.
Western Region Choir
A wonderful day was had by the students and staff today participating in the Western Region Choir Festival. Our students performed very well and represented our school with pride. Many thanks to Mrs Parker for her efforts in training the choir and to Miss Soulsby and Mrs Dean for accompanying the students.
Protected Industrial Action
Notification of planned protected industrial action on Thursday 30th June was sent out through Compass yesterday. Staff have been asked to inform me if they will be partaking in this action. Parents will be notified Friday 24th June after 3pm if school will be ‘business as usual’ on this day or alternative arrangements will need to be made for your children.
Semester One Reports
Semester One reports will be available for parents from 3pm Friday afternoon. The children have worked very hard during the first Semester and it will be great to celebrate their growth and improvement.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Next week all the class teachers will be available for parent teacher interviews. This is an important form of communication between home and school. It provides a valuable opportunity for teachers to discuss the students’ growth and progress and for parents to ask questions and find out how to support their children at home. I urge all parents to use the Compass booking facility before Sunday and make an appointment to meet with your child’s teacher.
Farewell
I was very moved yesterday to be presented with flowers from the staff, a beautiful card created by Beau Miller and signed by the all the children, another lovely card with an acrostic poem from Laura Reynolds and a framed photo of St Joseph’s School, to say thank you for my time here. It was totally unexpected but very much appreciated. Thank you to the parents who were able to come along to our Assembly and stay for afternoon tea.
Have a lovely week,
Katrina McGrath
Acting Principal
On Wednesday 29th June, St Joseph’s will be holding a ‘Winter Woollies Day’ to support the St Vincent De Paul Society’s fundraiser ‘Vinnies Winter Appeal’.
Students are invited to wear a beanie or scarf with their school uniform to support the Winter Appeal.
Vinnies would appreciate donations of ‘Winter Woollies’ such as gloves, socks, jackets, beanies, blankets or sleeping bags. All donations are distributed through the homelessness and community services.
The Feast of Nativity of John the Baptist - Friday 24th June
John the Baptist is the only saint other than Virgin Mary, whose birthday is celebrated by the Church in a liturgical feast. Usually the Church celebrates the day of a saint’s death as their feast. However Mary and John are exceptions as they were born from original sin.
John the Baptist was the son of Elizabeth and Zechariah, and he was related to Jesus on his mother’s side. His birth is celebrated six months before Christmas Day, since Elizabeth became pregnant six months before the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. John began his ministry when he was around thirty years old. He called people to repent and baptised them in water as a sign of purification.
NAIDOC Mass
Wednesday 27th July we will come together to celebrate NAIDOC Mass in Tumut at McAuley. Students of Aboriginal descent and Year 6 students are invited to represent St Joseph’s. More details will be sent our early next term.
Have a lovely week,
- Stacey Braun
Religious Education Coordinator

Yr 4/5/6 Canberra Excursion - Save the Date
St Joseph's students in Yr 4/5/6 will participate in a 3 day - 2 night excursion to Canberra in Term 4 on Monday 7th - Wednesday 9th November.
Students will be staying at Canberra Park and visiting a variety of different venues over the couple of days. We are very excited to be able to offer an excursion this year with Covid restrictions easing and allowing us to participate in overnight excursions. A letter with further details will be sent out next week.
Absences: all student absences need to be attended to as soon as possible to the day your child/ren is not present at school. It is extremely important absences are completed as it is mandatory for us to report our student attendance data twice yearly.
If you have any questions or need assistance with Compass please don't hesitate to contact the office, we are only too happy to help.
WINTER BITES FESTIVAL
Thank you so much to all of the families that helped on the gate during the Winter Bites Festival last Saturday. Your help is greatly appreciated by both the school and Snowy Valleys Council! This was such a great opportunity for the school as we will be receiving a $1000 donation for our help. This would not have been possible without the support of our families. Below is the thank you letter we received from the Winter Bites Festival Committee:
"Dear Jenna, On behalf of the Winter Bites Festival, I want to thank you and the St Joseph's School for your assistance with the gate at the festival on Saturday. We really appreciate your support and for providing our festival-goers with a friendly welcome as they arrived".
Belinda King - Winter Bites Festival Coordinator.
SCHOOL BEANIES
Woollen embroidered beanies are now available from Wendellie in Tumut. For those wishing to purchase they are approximately $15. You may like to consider your name embroidered in / on them or an iron-on tag as they can be difficult to label. They also have a range of navy winter school jackets available.
Wendellie, 50 Wynyard Street, Tumut. (02) 6947 6500
We will be looking to see if there is a family that would be able to donate a load of wood for the raffle. We will also need donations of baking and produce for the stall and helpers on the day to run the stall. Roster for helping on the stall will be available shortly.
WORKING BEE
St Joseph's will be holding a Working Bee next term on Saturday 23rd July.
