Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term Four!
I hope families enjoyed some time together over the break and students are excited about the upcoming activities and learning opportunities.
This morning on my way to school, just past O’Hehirs Road (near Forest Hill), I came across a runner on the side of the highway. It looked as though he had covered a fair distance and as I slowed to pass, I recognised who it was…and he had most certainly covered some kilometres. Nedd Brockmann has made it his mission to run from Cottesloe Beach in Western Australia to Bondi Beach in New South Wales…in 40 days! He is averaging 100km a day! Nedd isn’t a professional runner, in fact he only started committing to running more regularly during the Covid epidemic...a tradesman who has been moved by the levels of homelessness in Australia and wanted to make a difference to the lives of these people. Some would say an ordinary person doing extraordinary things!
We don’t need to be running across Australia to be making a difference but it’s reminders like this that allow us to reflect on the privileged position we are in, to appreciate what we have, to share our gratitude and to do our best to make a difference in the lives of others. I have been moved by his story and mission and thought that it would be remiss of me not share this amazing example of commitment and generosity with our community. For anyone interested, Google search ‘Ned Brockmann’ and there will be plenty of information for you to read about Nedd and his amazing mission!
Tumut Takes Two
We have seen several Tumut Takes Two posts in the newsletter this semester but I would like to once again thank Andrew Reynolds and his family for their amazing commitment to supporting our school through Tumut Takes Two. Andrew raised approximately $40 000 for our school. An enormous thank you must go to our amazing community who donated so generously and to everyone who went on Friday and Saturday to support Andrew with his performance. By all reports, there is a potential new career in the making!
Year Six Fundraiser
It seems as though fundraising is a theme for this week’s newsletter as we also have a fundraiser of our own being coordinated by Preston and Nate. Preston and Nate have chosen the Mark Hughes Foundation and ‘Beanies for Brain Cancer’ as their organisation to raise funds. This day will be Wednesday 26th October (Week 3) and as Mark Hughes is a former NRL star, they have decided that students can wear their favourite footy jumper and a beanie (or hat if it is a hot day) as part of their mufti day attire. The day will be a gold coin donation and also have a ‘Guess the Lollies in the Jar’ competition for $1, along with a few other ideas that they will share closer to the date. If anyone would like to access further information about Mark Hughes and his foundation, please visit the link https://markhughesfoundation.com.au/stories/marks-story/ Preston and Nate will also be visiting the classes and contributing to next week’s newsletter. Well done boys!
Uniform
With the Winter weather lingering, I will hold off on making the ‘Summer uniform’ announcement. Students can continue to wear Summer or Winter uniform, however, I ask that we don’t ‘mix and match’ and continue to bring hats for the playground. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Enjoy the remainder of your week,
Ryan Forsyth
Acting Principal

Term 4 Summer Uniform - NO HAT/NO PLAY
REMINDER: No Hat, No Play policy is in place all year round, a reminder that your child/ren need a hat for outside play.
Summer uniform is to be worn in Term 4.
Our local Golden Treasure Chest Op-Shop has a rack of St Joseph's second hand school uniforms for sale.
Wendellie's of Tumut also stock our full school uniform range available including hats.
Wendellie's are able to put an embroidery name on hats which we suggest, to ensure students are wearing their own hat and can be returned to the student should it be left out on the playground.
Students need to ensure they bring along cutlery to use at recess if they have something in their lunchbox that requires a spoon or fork etc.
Students from K-6 will participate in Tennis lessons on Friday's with Birdie Cahill.
Lessons will run for 5 weeks and will cost $10 per student which will be placed on school fees at the start of the term. If you would prefer to pay cash you are welcome to send in cash in an envelope with your child/ren's name on it.
Book Club catalogues have gone out this week, ordering is totally optional and not compulsory.
Orders need to be placed by Week 3 - 27th October.
Please place your order through the LOOP app
The meeting will be held at St Joseph's on Wednesday 19th October at 6pm and we encourage all families to attend.
