A chilly end to Week 3. A really settled week at St Joseph’s which is great. There is lots of extra things happening in the next couple of weeks, with sport, public speaking and book week so don’t forget to check the school calendar.
Our community council meeting is tonight at 6pm – all most welcome to attend. The parish pastoral council meeting is next Tuesday night at 7.30 pm.
Uniform policy
Last week a survey was sent out to all parents regarding the uniform policy. This was an opportunity for all parents to make suggestions about any changes they would like to see regarding the current uniform and to identify what parts of the uniform you are happy with. The survey results will guide the meeting that will take place later in the term about possible changes to be made to the policy. Not all families have completed their survey but currently the items that will be reviewed are the girls’ dresses and winter tunics, with the majority wanting to source a dress and tunic similar to what is already in place. The sports shirts are a 50/50 split – half the community would like the shirts to remain the same and half would like to see them updated, so if you haven’t filled out your survey please do so!
Sunglasses
Thank you to all those students who are wearing their sunglasses during play time. As you are aware the community council has purchased sunglasses for all students to wear all year round along with their hats. The survey indicated that the majority of families were happy with this change. It would be great for all students to have their sunglasses clipped onto their case and the motto is “It’s on your face or in your case”. The children are not use to wearing them yet, however with your support it will be an easy transition. In line with the Sunsmart safety policy for Primary schools Staff and students are encouraged to wear close-fitting wrap-around sunglasses that cover as much of the eye area as possible and comply with Australian Standard AS1067.
At the end of 2019 it would be great to review the sunglasses after a full six months of wearing them both in the summer and winter months. I thank you for your support on ensuring that your child is sunsmart.
Have a great week!
Kind Regards
Kirsty Beavan

Each week we will feature students who will share books they are enjoying reading.
The Primary Class have been learning about Government and Federation. They did a STEM challenge where Team A had to follow the rules and Team B didn’t. After the challenge students discussed why it wasn’t fair and related this to what Australia was like before the Australian Constitution was written.
Tennis - Todd Woodbridge Cup has been postponed until next Friday 16th August due to the weather. All details will remain the same.
Trent Barrett Shield - Wednesday 28th August in Gundagai. Please return permission notes. A reminder for the boys to bring their headgear, mouthguard and footy boots for practice on Wednesday.

In Week 5 we will be hosting ‘Book week’. We can dress up as any book character, especially super hero’s since our theme this year is ‘Reading is my Super Power’. The parade will be 10:00 am Thursday 22nd of August. The preschool will be joining us for the parade and some activities and morning tea . Book fair will be opened for the week starting Monday 19th. You can come and have a look before and after school each day, and the children will be able to have a look at the books during the week. Keep in mind this will be finishing on Friday 23rd of August.
