It was wonderful to have Archbishop Christopher Prowse celebrate Mass with us on Sunday 18th August. The Archbishop spoke fondly of the new build and discussed how fabulous it was to see the new school as you enter the grounds, and how it is a welcomed addition to our community. He is looking forward to opening our new buildings officially in 2025. Throughout his Graces’ homily he urged the Parish to be a welcoming community and to embrace the changes that the Catholic Church is experiencing. Our new school will bring many students – some Catholics and some that are not – but as welcoming communities we will embrace the changes.
Staff and students had a wonderful time last Wednesday for our Book Week Parade. All of the students looked great in their costumes – a big thanks to parents for making it all happen! A big thank you to Mrs Campbell for organising the Parade and for the afternoon trivia and ‘magical’ guessing competition which was a real hit with the students. It was wonderful to be joined by our Adelong Pre school friends who had a short visit due to the weather!
Good luck to Kruz who is competing at the Archdiocesan Athletics carnival in Canberra today in the 100m, 10 yrs. Our small schools relay team bypass the Archdiocesan carnival and will head of to the MacKillop carnival on the 25th September.
Our Kindergarten 2025 Orientation process kicks off on Wednesday night at 6 pm for our Information evening. We will have our Orientation days this term on:
Tuesday 3 rd September 9.30 – 11.30 am and
Tuesday 10th September 9.30 – 11.30 am. We look forward to welcoming our Kindergarten 2025 students to St Joseph’s.
Staff have been working with their HITP coach (High Impact Teaching Practices) today. Sommer demonstrated a Spelling Mastery lesson as well as observed teachers and gave them some feedback on their practices. Sommer also ran a staff meeting this afternoon on the Science of Learning in Practice.
It is magpie breeding season and students have been asked to stay away from certain spots on the playground where they are nesting. Magpies are protected species and we need to keep students safe as well as being mindful of our native birds.
Blessings for a great week,
Kirsty Beavan
Principal

Students in K/1/2 will travel over to the Tumut Museum next Monday 2nd September. Students will explore the artefacts that are displayed at the Museum. Students will then travel to the Bull Paddock playground to have their recess break before heading back to school in time for lunch.
The cost of this event is $1 per student. Please send this into the office.
K-2 students have been invited to attend the Adelong Library at 10:00am on Friday 30th August 2024.
We will walk to the library, participate in story time and some activities, before walking to the Adelong Memorial Park for recess and a play. We will then walk back to school in time for lunch at 1:00pm.
Years 1 and 2 have had such a busy term so far! They have been really interested in learning about Paris, the Eiffel Tower and the Olympics this year. So after celebrating Green and Gold day to support our Olympians, they completed a guided drawing of the Eiffel Tower and added some bright fireworks to their backgrounds. Don’t they look fantastic!
Years 1 and 2 have also been learning how to write procedures this term. After writing the procedure for how to make fairy bread, we decided to check that they included all the ingredients and steps by making some fairy bread. We then enjoyed eating it as well!
Finally, thank you to all the parents, family and friends that came to our Mass last week to celebrate the Assumption of Mary. The class worked really hard to learn their readings and Mrs Dean is super proud of them all.
On Monday 19th August, students from K/1/2 learnt all things shearing when they visited The Reynolds family farm at Yaven Creek. They had a fantastic time learning about penning, shearing, wool classing and what happens during shearing time. A big thank you to Will, Michael & Margaret for hosting St Joseph's at their farm
Last Wednesday we held our Book Week parade, Guessing Competition and Trivia Quiz. It was wonderful to welcome the preschoolers and see all the children dressed as their favourite book characters. It was fantastic to have characters from both new and classic books, from across a range of genres. St. Joseph's students do love a dress up day and this day did not disappoint.
In the afternoon, we played Book Week trivia with the whole school, with teams being made up from across the year groups. It was fantastic to see our older students supporting the younger students in their teams. The winning team was ELCJT Winners- comprising of Laura Reynolds (team captain), Josey Hobbs, Emily McMahon, Talia Taufu'i and Campbell Roche. The Guessing Competition was won by Billy Bamblett and Emily Matthews.
Although our Book Fair was cancelled due to space restrictions, families can still buy books from the Book Club order form that went home last week. The school still benefits from ordering through this form.
This year in Library, we are focusing on instilling a love of reading and would encourage everyone to read at home regularly. If you would like some reading suggestions, I am happy to help because that is often the stopping point to children reading.
As the weather is warming up we are noticing items of clothing and hats are getting misplaced often. Can we please ensure that students clothing is labelled clearly so that when it is found we are able to easily identify and return it to the correct student.
With the weather continuing to become warmer, we are seeing some Students becoming very warm by lunch time. Students can transition to their summer uniform if needed.
Please note:
The last day of attendance for Students for Term 3 is Thursday 26th September due to Friday 27th September being a staff development day.
Attached below are the meeting minutes from the last Community Council Meeting that was held on Wednesday 14th August 2024.

Any concerns or questions can be emailed to lucinda.clay@mccg.org.au or alternatively call the school office on Mondays.
- Grounds Maintenance Roster
With the weather warming up the grass is starting to grow much quicker! Please please keep an eye on the grounds so that they are mowed when required.
When you have completed the mowing, please let the school know so that the office can contact the next person on the list.
Section A | Section B |
Annetts Family | Williams Family |
Singh Family | Pearce Family |
Shiels Family | Frank Corbett Family |
We would like if families could check if some of the areas in your allocated section need whipper snipping eg; around trees, rock/rockeries etc.
Please ensure you have re-filled the fuel tanks on the mower or whipper snipper after you finish and advise the school if we require more fuel. Please also advise the school that you have mowed so we can let the next Family know that it is their turn.
