St Joseph's Staff
St Joseph’s Feast day is celebrated on March 19th. Although there are not many references to him in the Gospels, Joseph has always been a beacon of love, faith and compassion. A fantastic patron for schools. In Sicily, Saint Joseph is regarded by many as their Patron saint. According to legend, there was a severe drought at the time, and the people prayed for their patron saint to bring them rain. They promised that if God answered their prayers through Joseph's intercession, they would prepare a large feast to honour him. The rain did come, and the people of Sicily prepared a large banquet for their patron saint. |
Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday
St Joseph's students participated in Shrove Tuesday last week, which is the day before Ash Wednesday. Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration before the start of Lent. There were lots of activities and colouring in to do as well. We then celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass today with Father George who made it a very special mass.

Tom & Fred Swim at Archdiocese Carnival
Nearly two weeks ago we went to Narooma, on the way we saw heaps of Brumbies. We went to the Narooma Indoor Pool and it was a 50m pool. There were heaps of people there from different schools and regions such as Southern Region, Western Region and Northern Region.
Tom- I went in the 200m IM, 50m Backstroke and the 50m Breaststroke. I tried really hard but unfortunately I didn’t make it to the next level.
Fred- I went in the 50m Freestyle and came 6th. It was cold down there and I had lots of butterflies in my tummy.
We were very proud of ourselves for making it away to Narooma. We both had a really good weekend and we even got to celebrate Eliza’s birthday down there.
Last week K/1/2 explored patterns with a range of manipulative materials.
In literacy groups today Kindergarten explored initial sounds and completed alphabet puzzles. Years 1 and 2 worked on their book reviews.
Primary class have been learning about 2D shapes and 3D objects in Maths. One of the activities was the 'Beetle of Shapes' game that they played with a partner. They then had to stick their beetles into their books and label the 2D shapes that they could see. They had lots of fun playing this game!
In STEM, each group chose their own 3D object and were able to create their own shape using materials of their choice.
This week Primary have been working on measurements.
Week 6 Assembly
Congratulations to our Students of the Week at last weeks Assembly, Saanvi, Matilda, Grace and Nate. Birthday wishes went to Eliza and Hugh and we also had some very excited students who received their 'Pen Licence'. Our classes also shared some great class work they had worked on.

Details of the Cross Country to be held in Tumut were sent home last week. Could parents return the permission note and bus travel money as soon as possible. Students need to bring their usual fruit break, packed recess and lunch and plenty of water, wearing full sports uniform. Please ensure they have a hat.

Tuesday 26th March
Familes are invited to come along to look at the great work your child/ren have been working on in class. The children love showing their classroom to their family so we look forward to you coming along. Classrooms will be open from 8:30am-9:00am and then after school at 3:15pm to 4:00pm.
Thursday 28th March
Our Athletics carnival will be held with St Mary’s on Thursday 28th March in Batlow this year, due to works at Adelong Showground. Kindergarten to Year 6 students will attend.
All children will travel by bus, a note will be sent home with details and cost. Please return the permission note and money as soon as possible. St Mary’s are yet to confirm whether they will have lunches available.

2019 NSW Premier's Reading Challenge
Mrs Dean is again running the NSW Premier's Reading Challenge. She will be registering the children on Friday and will send home login details next week.
The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read; to read more and to read more widely.
Check out the new site! enter the following URL in your browser: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/studentExperience.html#/

The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is available for all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in Government, Independent, Catholic and Home Schools.
Don’t forget our school working bee on Sunday March 24th. We hope all families can come and help with the upgrades of our outside environment. This benefits the children and keeps our school looking aesthetically tidy and welcoming.
