Week 7 at St Joseph’s has been quite settled with teaching and learning at the fore front! A gentle reminder that if your child is absent to ring, email or write a note. As we are getting towards the end of the year it is a mandatory requirement that days absent are on our reports so it would be great if all families have updated any absences.
It is a busy time of the year as our teachers are ensuring that assessments are up to date, reports are near completed and many interviews need to be had. Again please understand that there is a lot of compliance and documentation that staff need to complete, so if you have been contacted by your child’s teacher please get back to them as soon as you can as there is a lot to do in a short space of time.
We are in an unusual situation for the Preschool Carols by Candle light which is coming up on Saturday 7th December. All staff are either out of town or have family commitments on that evening which means that there is no staff to lead the children. It is a big ask but if there are any parents who may be attending Carols and would be happy to organise the children on the night please contact me.
Have a great week.
Kind Regards,
Kirsty Beavan
Advent is the period of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas
The four candles represent the four weeks of Advent, and one candle is lit each Sunday. ... The first candle, which is purple, symbolizes hope.

I have chosen to fundraise for Beyond Blue to support people suffering with mental health issues. Beyond Blue provides information and support to help everyone in Australia achieve their best possible mental health, whatever their age wherever they live. There will be blue food in the canteen on the day. There will also be blue face paints.

It will be on Friday the 29th and is a gold coin donation if you would like to wear blue clothes to school.
K, 1, 2 had fun shopping in Maths today. They enjoyed selecting grocery items and finding the total amount of their purchase.
The students then had to calculate the change they would receive or put items back in the shop if they did not have enough money!
The Primary Class have been focusing on a Christmas themed maths program this week. We began the week with measuring our height and graphing the results into a line graph. Then we had to guess the height of the Christmas tree and then plot our own height against it. We were given a packet of baubles where we had to sort them into different categories in a group. We tallied up the amount of baubles in a group and will then plot them into a column graph.
Last week the K,1,2 students were very excited to receive letters from the students at St Xavier’s School in Lake Cargellico. Everyone read their letters from their pen pal and then had to write back.
It was wonderful to have a specific purpose and audience for our writing task. The children answered questions from their pen pals and told them about their favourite sports, books and activities.
We located Lake Cargellico on a map and worked out how long it would take to drive there.
We hope to hear back from our pen pals before the end of term and learn more about their school and lifestyle.
Photos show Kindergarten reading the letter they received from their pen pal, Year 1 displaying their finished letters and Year 2 writing their draft letters.
Sport News - Archidocese of Canberra Goulburn Representative Trials, Championships or Carnivals.
Currently the CE is collecting an ‘Expression Of Interest’ process for students to participate in any Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Representative Trials, Championships or Carnivals.
If you would like to nominate your child/ren for the following sport trials, please read the registration information and send through your expression of interest. This is done directly with the CE, the school does not process any nominations.
Christmas Gifting - Donation of Goods
As part of the St Joseph’s School Christmas spirit, we are asking families to donate an item of non-perishable food or a toy over the next few weeks. This will go to our local St Vincent De Paul who will distribute to those who are less fortunate in our local community.
Our gifting mass will be part of our end of year mass and awards and the children will bring their donations to the altar and place in the baskets. Thank you for your continued support.
