Welcome to the new school year! I would like to welcome all of our new families to the St Joseph’s community. We look forward to working closely with you as we partner together for your child’s education.
This week’s newsletter is coming out today due to the short week last week and the swimming carnival being held on Thursday.
This summer is one that I am sure most people in our community would like to forget and we need to make sure that all of our families are travelling OK. As you know there is lots of support available to our school community (and beyond) due to the recent bushfires. The first form of assistance to the children which is available is extra counsellor visits provided by Catholic Care and Catholic Education. A referral form was sent out last week, so if you would like your child to visit Melissa, please fill out the form and return it to school. There have already been some general talks and discussions led by Mel in the 2/3/4 and 5/6 classrooms and the same will happen with K/1 in the next couple of weeks. If you are at all concerned about the wellbeing of your child/ren whether it has been a direct result of the bushfires or not, please utilise this service.
There has also been the very generous fee remission offered by Catholic Education to those families who have been directly impacted by the bushfires. The criteria is that families need to be directly impacted and that there has been loss of primary residence and/or other criteria such as loss of livelihood and income source (if primary income source) through loss of livestock, business and employment. I hope to get in contact with all our families who have been directly impacted and discuss this with you further.
Our opening school mass will be celebrated next Thursday 13th February by Father George. This will be where we will officially welcome our new and Kindergarten students and our Year Six leaders will receive their badges. We look forward to seeing you all there.
Don’t forget to check the schoolzine calendar to keep up to date with what is happening in our busy little school.
Have a great week,
Kind Regards,
Kirsty Beavan
Loving God,
As we come together at the beginning of this new school year
We ask you to send your Spirit upon us, so that, as the days and terms unfold we may be always mindful of your presence and alert to opportunities to see and serve you in those around us.
Please bless the students, staff and families of St Joseph’s and help us come to know Jesus as we grow in faith together.
We ask this prayer through Christ Our Lord
Amen

Mowing/Grounds
This year the mowing and grounds will be split into two sections eg; front half of school and oval etc. We will send out a new roster in the coming weeks. During the school break we had Brett Maher come in to tidy the grounds up before the students returned. Thank you to the families who kept the gardens and grounds watered during the break it is lovely and fresh. Thank you also to Joe Carmody who came in and whipper snipped. Over the holiday period the Community Council has purchased a new whipper snipper for our families to use when it's their turn.
Welcome Kindergarten 2020
It was lovely to welcome our ten new Kinder students for 2020 last Thursday. They all had a great day and so did Miss Braun!
They will have rest days on Wednesdays until Wednesday 26th Feb where they will commence full weeks. If you have any queries please contact the office.
Wednesday 5th, 12th and 19th.
We are looking forward to our swimming carnival this Thursday, the weather is looking great. All students will come to school as normal, Yrs 2-6 will walk down to the pool at around 9:15am, with K/1 students walking down at recess time.
Students are encouraged to bring lots of water, a hat and sunscreen. They will also need to bring a rashie, towel, thongs, goggles etc and packed food for the day as we will not be supplying lunch. Students can bring a small amount of money to purchase something at the canteen.
If you are available to help out on the day with time-keeping etc., that would be fantastic please let Mrs Beavan know.
Our Environmental Leaders - Spencer and Archie preparing our pots for each class to plant their Prayer Seeds.
Welcome back to 2020. I am looking forward to taking on the role of Religious Education Co-ordinator this year.
Staff commenced the school year with a Liturgy praying for our families, schools and community affected by the bushfires.
We are focusing on the concept of ‘Growth’ this term – looking at regrowth after the devasting fires, growth of our students in all curriculum areas and how we can nurture our spiritual growth at St Joseph’s so together we can grow in faith, hope and love.
I look forward to catching up with you at our Opening School Mass.
Kind Regards
Liz Murray
