Dear families,
It has been lovely to be back in the church over the last two weeks to celebrate again as a school community. Yesterday we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption with Fr George. His singing and the beautiful way that he speaks to the children means that they are constantly engaged and have a great understanding of his message. A big thank you to Mrs Murray for her organisation and preparation of our celebrations.
We were able to squeeze our first tennis lesson in today with ‘Birdie’ before the rain which was great – this was a catch up lesson for last Friday. Weather permitting the children will have tennis for sport for the next four Fridays.
Staff, parents and students from Yrs 3-6 have a link/email to complete the 2020 School Improvement survey. The information gained from the survey – things that are working well and areas of operations that may need improvement will inform our School Improvement Plan, as well as give valuable feedback to Catholic Education from all schools in the Archdiocese. The survey will close on Wednesday 19 August 2020.
Have a great week.
Kind Regards,
Kirsty Beavan

It was wonderful to have Father George celebrate Mass with us yesterday for The Feast of the Assumption. The Assumption of Mary is a Holy Day of Obligation in the Church calendar and the actual feast day is Saturday 15th August. According to our faith Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven having completed her earthly life.
Father congratulated the children on their respectful participation in Mass, beautiful singing and their knowledge of the Feast Day.
Our school captains, Eliza and Hugh congratulated Father on his 10th Anniversary of his Ordination in The Priesthood and presented him with a gift from the school.
It was also an opportunity to formally welcome our news students to St Joseph’s- Cody, Annabelle and Ryan.
This week we ask Mary to take care for us as we pray ‘The Hail Mary’.
Have a lovely week.
- Liz Murray

An absence note is a legal requirement, any student who is absent from school is required to have their absence explained.
At St Joseph's absence notes are available via the website, emailing the school office email, phoning the school and via our SZapp. We ask that if you do choose to phone the school, please ask the staff member taking your call to fill out an absence note on your behalf.
It is very important that an absence is explained, if after 7 days a note has not been received by your classroom teacher, your child will be marked with an unexplained absence.
Students who are unwell and absent for more than 3 days will require a doctors certificate or be tested for Covid-19.
Size 8 polar fleece sports jumper belonging to Alice MacDougall. Please could parents check if they may have it.
Thank you.
This term in Science, the 5/6 class are learning about electricity. They have really enjoyed creating electrical circuits and experimenting with different materials to find out whether they are conductors or insulators of electricity.
Due to our working bee not been able to be held due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are asking parents to volunteer to do a job at a time that suits them. We have a list of jobs and it would be fantastic if families could pick a job from the list.
Thank you to the Oberholzer family who came and weeded the vegie garden in the holidays and the MacDougall family who have also offered to cover some of the new books we have received.
Other jobs on the list include:
* weed and tidy garden around tennis/basketball courts
* prune roses
* weed and tidy garden around the front of school
* clean out drain - side of school and remove covers
* remove weeds from tennis courts
Our next Community Council meeting is set down for Wednesday 19th August at 6pm.
