Some major works took place this week at St Joseph’s with the sewer line being replaced in the whole front section of the school. This has been an ongoing issue for some 10 plus years, so replacing some earthen ware sections and replacing the lot means that we shouldn’t have any more issues with tree roots and blocked pipes!
This week the Principal’s award is for being a giving student. It is timely with our Mission week focus this week as well. So many students have cleaned out their own piggy banks to give so generously to the missions this week, which is wonderful to see. It is great to acknowledge those students who are giving with their time to help others, with their spirit – making sure their friends and peers are OK on the playground and just give of themselves to others.
Australia will celebrate and thank the teaching profession on World Teachers Day 2020.
Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families and communities.
I would like to personally thank each staff member of St Joseph’s for their dedication and commitment to their teaching vocation. 2020 in particular has been an extremely challenging year for all teachers around the globe and the way in which St Joseph’s staff overnight changed the format and delivery of learning for students was nothing short of amazing. I hope the students will get a chance to say a big thank you to their teacher if they get a chance on Friday.
Have a great week.

Principal
MISSION MONTH
The children have been excited to bring in their coins to donate to the Missions and are looking forward to wearing their crazy, colourful or odd socks on Friday to ‘Sock it to Poverty’. Thank you for the generosity that has been shown already – it is wonderful for the children to witness Social Justice in action.
The money we raise will be donated to the Arrupe Centre in Cambodia to provide for children with disabilities caused by landmine accidents, polio and other diseases. We will see which class can make the longest line with their coins as well as total their collection.
The children have been particularly touched by Dara’s story and are gaining an understanding of the need to reach out and help others who do not have access to healthcare, education and resources as we do in Australia.
Today 2,3,4, prayed the Mission Rosary for children around the world. Each decade is a different colour to represent a different continent: green for Africa, red for the Americas, blue for Oceania, yellow for Asia and white for Europe.
It was lovely to see how respectfully they participated in the prayer session.

A reminder to return your note for the Cricket Gala Day next Tuesday:
Cricket Gala Day - 3rd November - Adelong Showground - Yrs 3, 4, 5, 6 boys & girls
A note for Trent Barrett - 11th November - Yrs 3/4 boys & girls will go out today.
Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 restrictions spectators are not allowed at any of the sports/gala days.
We are very excited to be welcoming our new Kinder students for 2021 in November for their Orientation Days.
Strict COVID protocols will be in place during these sessions, a letter has been sent out regarding the protocols that will be in place.
Parents dropping children off and picking them up will need to sanitise and sign the sign in sheet and keep to the 10min drop off timeframe.
If children or parents are feeling unwell we ask that you follow the COVID guidelines and do not attend the Orientation sessions.
REMINDER: Please send in a refillable drink bottle, due to COVID-19 restrictions children are unable to use the bubbler. However they can refill their drink bottle from the water tower.
Book Club catalogues went out to families last week, any orders are due back by next Monday 2nd November.
Please use the LOOP app to order where possible.
We thank you for your continued support of the Book Club as the school does receive rewards which we put back into purchasing more books for the school.
REMINDER: No Hat, No Play policy is in place all year round, a reminder that your child/ren need a hat for outside play.
If they don't have a hat they will need to sit under the tree.
Just a reminder that we discourage bringing toys or precious items into school to play with at recess and lunch, we wouldn't like to see expensive or precious items ruined.
Mortimer Shield was a blast for the 5/6 class. Eliza, Matilda and Gypsy played league tag with McAuley Tumut girls. The boys Jack, Archie, Charlie, Tom and Harry all played with St Pats Gundagai.
The boys said “it was a fun and enjoyable game throughout the day.” They played five games, against McAuley, Franklin, Tumbarumba, Adelong Public School and Tumut Public School. They won against Franklin where the score was 8-0. In that same game Tom scored a try after running the whole field and Jack in a separate game scored one try.
The girls played against Tumut Public, Gundagai Public, Franklin, Tumbarumba and Adelong Public. Although they didn't win any games they had a blast playing with McAuley. Gypsy scored 4 tries, Eliza scored 3 tries, and Matilda scored 1.
Overall it was a successful day for both teams.

Congratulations to our students who received awards in Week 2.
A big thank you to our parents, Kaye, Lauren, Lucy and Jenna who helped out recently at the Robson families bull sale with serving of food. It was very much appreciated by the Robson family.
Covid restrictions are still very much in place for schools and for the school community there are minimal changes. Parents are asked to only enter the school grounds for a meeting/interview at the schools or parents request, or to pick up/drop off their child.
If a student or staff member is exhibiting flu like symptoms they are to stay at home – get covid tested and return to school once they have received a negative test result.
