Welcome to Week 6. There still continues to be a lot of sickness in our school community. Thank you to all parents for keeping their child/ren at home when they are unwell. A friendly reminder that students need to be symptom free on their return to school. This ensures that the rest of our school is healthy and does not become sick.
Tell them from me survey
This week families were sent the link to complete the Tell them from me survey. Apologies that the first link was not working, a new link was sent out, so families should have no problem accessing the survey which will remain open till 9th June 2023.
Research Behind the Survey
The TTFM® Parent Survey is based primarily on Joyce Epstein’s framework for fostering positive relations between the school and the community. Successful schools foster greater communication with parents, encourage parental involvement in their child’s schoolwork, and enlist parents to volunteer at the school and participate in school governance. This survey provides feedback on parents’ perceptions of the school’s support for learning, positive behaviours, and the promotion of safety and inclusion.
Supporting School Growth
Insights into parent and staff communication, activities and practices at home, and parent voice on the school’s support of learning and behaviour all build an accurate and timely picture that schools can use for practical improvements.
Have a wonderful week.

2/3 Class Mass
Well done Year 2/3 on presenting your Class Mass today. It was lovely to come together to celebrate as a school. All the students read beautifully and were reverent during the service. During the Mass, Fr Joe blessed the rosary beads and wooden crosses that Mrs Murray brought back from the Holy Lands.
We look forward to K/1’s Class Mass, Tuesday 20 June at 12pm.
Pentecost
On Sunday we celebrated Pentecost. Pentecost holds significant importance as it marks the birth of the Christian Church and commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit. Red is often used as the liturgical colour for Pentecost, symbolising the fire of the Holy Spirit.
Let us be still and ask the Holy Spirit to be with us.
Dear Father, be with us as we pray.
Open our ears to hear your Word in the Gospel.
Unite us in faith, hope and love as we pray together.
Send your Holy Spirit
to inspire and sustain us in our mission.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Expression of Interest
Year 6 Leadership Pastoral Care Visits
Do you know of someone in the community who may benefit from our Year 6 Pastoral Care visits?
We are currently seeking expressions of interests from people in the Adelong community who may be willing to participate in our Year 6 Pastoral Care outreach visits.
If you know of someone who may benefit and are happy to receive a visit, we encourage you to speak with the person first.
Please ask if they are ok if you put their name forward and pass on their contact details to the school.
Once we have received details we will contact them to organise suitable days and times.
For more information, please contact either Mrs Beavan or Mrs Clay.
Uniform Policy
St Joseph’s uniform policy has been under review this year and all staff, parents and students had the opportunity to review the policy. At our last Community Council meeting a summary was presented to the meeting of the staff, parents, and student’s responses. There was also a discussion and a vote on items in the uniform policy – the embroidery of summer school shirts and the changing of the sports shirt to an updated design and fabric.
The uniform policy will predominately remain the same with a few small changes and a tightening up of the wording of the policy to avoid any confusion. St Joseph’s has always tried to keep the cost of our school uniform to a minimum and the changes will be implemented over a time frame so that current blue summer shirts and sports shirt can be worn until they are outgrown. If uniform poses any financial stress on families, please come and talk to me. Our local Op shop The golden treasure chest has many St Josephs uniforms if families need them.
- The blue summer shirts will now have the school logo added to them. Wendellies that stock the shirts will charge an additional $3 to the cost of the shirt. This change can be introduced in 2024 for families wishing to purchase new shirts and will be phased in.
- The sports shirt will be updated to a new design and possibly a lighter weight fabric. St Joseph’s is currently sourcing the new shirt keeping in mind that it needs to be a design that we can continue to obtain and stock and will also be phased in at the beginning of 2024.
- Clearer wording for jewellery/hair has been included to ensure that all families are aware of the requirements for all students. All students with long hair (defined as longer than sitting above the shoulders) must be tied back at all times.
- Western Region representative hoodies, Archdiocesan representative hoodies and MacKillop merchandise are not part of the school uniform. Whilst St Joseph’s acknowledges the wonderful representative achievements of our students, they are not part of the school uniform.
- School shoes need to be all black, no splashes of colour – students may choose to wear black boots, leather school shoes or black school joggers. On sports days there is no colour restrictions for joggers.
- No logos, advertising on jackets, beanies, socks or tracksuit pants.
Thank you to all families for putting your views forward on the uniform policy.
In the Commitment and Declaration section of St Joseph’s enrolment form it states:
Your child is expected to adhere to the school’s standards for:
- Behaviour, dress and self-discipline
- Application to course work work and study
- Participation in school activities
Your co-operation is essential to assist your child to meet these expectations.
I trust that I have families full support on uniform now that the consultation process is complete. The policy comes into effect on 1 June 2023 and will be reviewed again in 2025. The new uniform policy can be found below and on our school website.

2/3 have been busy over the past week preparing for the 2/3 Mass. They have taken great pride in decorating the church with hearts that represent the theme of forgiveness.
We have also enjoyed the last five weeks of Gymnastics and are coming away with many new skills, including juggling.
On Friday 26th May we acknowledged National Sorry Day by completing some activities and learning the sign language from Key Word Sign Australia to acknowledge the Stolen Generations.
After the excursion to Wagga to see The Twits, 2/3 wrote a recount of their day out. They had to make sure their recount started with a Sizzling Start that either started with dialogue, onomatopoeia or cut straight to the action. Some examples of these can be seen below.
National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week
On Friday, as part of National Sorry Day, Nicholas and I visited all of the classrooms to teach everyone a special message in sign language about the meaning of Sorry Day. Everyone was amazing at signing it and listening to the message of Sorry Day.
- Culley Reynolds
The Bringing them home report recommended (Recommendation No 7.a) that a National Sorry Day be held each year on May 26 to \commemorate the history of forcible removals and it's effects'. As a result of this recommendattion the community-based organisation the National Sorry Day Committee (NSDC) was formed.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week was initiated in 1996 to privide a special focus for nationwide activities.
National Reconciliation Week offers people across Australia the opportunity to focus on reconciliation, to hear about the cultures and histories of Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and to explore new and better ways of meeting challenges in our communities. The week is times to coincide with two significant dates in Australia's history 27 May and 3 June.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023, Be a Voice for Generations, encourage all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible wats in our everyday lives - where we live, work and socialise.
